Got roasted by a client for my video background and it forced me to fix it

A client straight up said 'your background looks like a storage unit' during a Zoom call last month. I grabbed a $30 collapsible backdrop from Amazon and a clamp lamp from Target and now my calls actually look professional. Anyone else get called out for something obvious they were ignoring?

Jumped on that same train a few months back after a client straight up asked if I was filming from a garage. It's funny how we get so used to our own spaces that we don't see the mess anymore, but other people sure do.

wait, was it the client who said it or someone else on the call? because mine was a client too, straight up asked if i was “broadcasting from a storage unit.” i had this old bookshelf behind me with random junk piled up and a lamp that cast a weird shadow on my face. grabbed one of those ring lights and a plain white sheet pinned to the wall, cost me like 20 bucks total. now i actually get compliments on how clean my setup looks. it's wild how one honest comment can save you from looking like a hoarder on video forever.
