Pro tip: coffee shop wifi in Medellin dies at 3pm sharp every day
Was working from a spot in El Poblado last Thursday. Needed to upload a video file for a client by 4pm. Wifi went down at 3 like clockwork. Tried three different cafes before one guy told me the whole neighborhood grid shifts around that time. Ended up tethering off my phone in a park. File took 45 minutes to upload and cost me $8 in data. Anyone else run into weird timing issues with internet in popular nomad hubs?

Heard Colombia's power grid gets rerouted for crypto mining around that time.

Did you try using a mobile hotspot with a local SIM instead of relying on cafe wifi? I had a similar problem in Medellin and grabbing a Claro or Tigo prepaid SIM for around $10 saved me during those afternoon drops. Also, those coworking spaces with backup generators usually keep the internet running through the power shifts.

Yeah my buddy Josh was down in Cartagena last year and tried that exact thing. Grabbed a Claro SIM at the airport for like 12 bucks and it saved his whole trip. He still had to bounce between a couple coworking spots but at least his calls didnt drop every 20 minutes.
