Ran into another nomad in a cafe in Medellin who totally changed my mind about coworking spaces

I was working at this cafe in Laureles last month and this guy sits down next to me, sees my laptop stickers, and just starts talking about how he's been bouncing around hostels for 2 years with no coworking membership ever. He said he saves about $150 a month just by finding cafes with good wifi and buying one coffee. Does anyone else feel like coworking spaces are overpriced or am I missing something?

Oh man I gotta hard disagree on this one lol. Coworking spaces are worth every penny if you actually need to get stuff done. I've been burned too many times by cafes with "good wifi" that die at 3pm or have outlets that don't work or get super loud right when you have a call. Plus $150 a month is nothing when you factor in buying two or three coffees and a sandwich every day at a cafe that's like $8-$10 easy. In Medellin specifically, spots like Selina or WeWork have solid internet, free printing, and actual private phone booths for Zoom calls. The nomad guy probably wasn't doing any video calls or heavy work just browsing lol.

Selina tried to charge me $75 for a day pass once because I showed up during their "peak event week" or some nonsense they made up. Their wifi is fine but you're basically paying for the privilege of sitting in a room full of people on Zoom calls who don't use headphones. I'll take my chances at a cafe with a backup battery pack.
