Skipping travel insurance almost cost me big time

I used to think travel insurance was a waste of money, so I never bought it. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me, but I thought nothing bad would happen. Then I got really sick while in Bali and had to pay out of pocket for a clinic visit and meds. Now I make sure to get a plan before every trip, even short ones. It's pretty cheap if you look online, and it covers stuff like lost bags or flight issues. That one scare showed me how dumb it was to skip it. So yeah, I totally flipped on this and think everyone should get it.

Yeah, the part about it being "pretty cheap if you look online" is so true. I read an article a while back that said most people don't realize their regular health insurance often does nothing when you're out of the country. That really stuck with me. It's not just about big disasters, but those smaller, common headaches that can ruin a trip. Now I see it as a small fee for some real peace of mind.

My old travel insurance policy was basically just me crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. It worked great until it didn't, which is a terrible long term plan. Now I figure the cost is about the same as one airport sandwich, and that sandwich won't help me if my luggage goes to Tahiti without me.

Same here. Skipped insurance once and my flight got canceled. Had to book a new one last minute, cost a fortune. Now I get a plan that helps if trips get canceled. Worth every penny.

When you say the plan helped when your trip got canceled, which part actually covered you? Was it the flight cancellation part, or did it also help with the new booking fees? I've heard some plans are really picky about what counts as a valid reason.
