Stumbled on a quote about slow travel that clicked for me
I was scrolling through some old blog posts and found a line that said 'you don't see a city, you live its rhythm.' It hit me hard because last month in Lisbon I spent 5 days just watching the trams roll by from a cafe and felt more connected than I ever did rushing through 10 sights in Paris. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized you were traveling too fast?

That slow rhythm is the city letting you in on its secrets.

The "secrets" part is interesting to me because I don't think cities have secrets at all... they have stories that nobody bothered to write down. A truck brake and a slow rhythm are both just noise until you decide what to make of it. You're not being let in on anything, you're just paying attention.

gracec16 I have to push back a little on that. City secrets are more like a messy conversation you're half listening to, not some smooth, slow thing. You catch them in the sharp sound of a truck brake, not in a drawn out pause.
