Am I the only one who thinks paying $150 for a tile saw rental is a ripoff?

Last month at the Home Depot on Elm Street, I told the guy at the rental counter I was gonna cut 200 ceramic tiles by hand instead of renting their saw. He laughed and said I'd regret it. I didn't regret it at all, took me 3 hours but I saved the cash and got cleaner cuts without a wet mess. What's your take on overpriced tool rentals?

That line about "waking up" hits close to home... I rented a pressure washer last summer for $80 and spent like 45 minutes just trying to figure out how to connect the hose without flooding my driveway. Ended up with a soggy shoes and the thing barely worked, so I just borrowed my neighbor's old one and bought him a six pack instead. Sometimes you gotta wonder if these rental places are just banking on people giving up halfway through and paying the late fee... I still think your tile saw move was smart, those counter guys always act like experts but half of them never even used the equipment themselves.

And that six pack move was pure genius, I wish I'd thought of that before I burned $80 and a whole afternoon. My pressure washer adventure ended with me explaining to my wife why there was a muddy river running down the street, which she did not find funny at all. Meanwhile the neighbor kid down the block had his hooked up and running in like three minutes flat, probably using the same model I had. I swear those things come with instructions written by the same people who make IKEA furniture, just cryptic enough to make you feel like a complete moron. At least you ended up with cold beers and a clean driveway, I ended up with a refund and a permanent red face.

You ever rent a floor sander? I did once, spent two hours just getting the paper to stay on the drum before I realized the damn thing was missing a spring. Called the place and they acted like I was the idiot. Youre right, they definitely count on people just eating the cost and walking away.
