Hit 1,000 board feet of reclaimed lumber stored in my garage and my wife put her foot down
I thought I was being smart pulling old barn wood from a demo site outside Nashville for free. Now she says the wood pile takes up more room than my truck, and I can't even walk to the workbench anymore. Anyone else get told to downsize their stash?

I read a study a while back about how storage clutter in garages actually makes people use their tools less. Something like 40% of people with packed garages avoid projects because they can't get to their stuff. I think @uma_williams is spot on about the safety thing too. I have a buddy who piled up lumber and one piece shifted and hit his truck fender. Cost him 800 bucks to fix. My wife gave me a hard limit of 500 board feet after I showed her the math on what I actually used last year. I had to build a rack system to keep it organized and off the floor. It helps a lot but I still have to keep a list of what I've got so I don't buy the same stuff twice.

You ever stop to think maybe she has a point? I used to roll my eyes at that kind of talk til I tripped over a stack of oak planks in the dark and nearly broke my ankle.

Honestly, it's wild how many things we just brush off as common sense until something nearly messes us up. Tbh, that's the pattern with most safety stuff - people think it's overblown until they're the ones eating concrete or tripping over something stupid. Ngl, it kinda makes you wonder how much we ignore because it hasn't bit us yet.
