I thought peel and stick backsplash tiles were a total gimmick

Used them in my kitchen reno last month and they've held up perfectly, even right behind the stove. Anyone have a brand they swear by for a bathroom project?

Has anyone thought about the long game with cleaning? I used some in a rental and the grout lines on the sticker part got kinda gross after a while. Grease splatter and steam left a film that wouldn't wipe off like real tile. It looked fine until you got up close, but then it was kinda dingy.

Did my friend's bathroom ones start peeling after a steamy shower?

I wonder if the humidity is the whole problem though. I put some of those peel and stick tiles in a half bath that never gets steamy and they've held up fine for two years now. But my sister put the same ones in her main bathroom and they started lifting at the edges after maybe 4 months. She even prepped the wall exactly like the instructions said. So maybe it's not just the steam itself but how the adhesive reacts to constant moisture cycles. Have you noticed if your friend's bathroom has a working vent fan or not?

What about the wall itself, is it totally flat? Mine bubbled on an old plaster wall that wasn't perfect.
