My dad's old trick for leveling cabinets finally clicked

I fought with shims for years trying to get base cabinets level in my kitchen remodel. Tried those plastic leveling systems from the big box store and still had wobble. Last month I remembered my dad used to just screw a block to the stud and rest the cabinet on it. Did that on my last three cabinets and got them dead level in 10 minutes each. Anybody else use a simple trick like that instead of the fancy stuff?

Four shims and a level, that's all I've ever needed.

Did you miss a step or is my level just lying to me again, @simonp76?

Saw a tweet that said shims are just wood's way of admitting it can't behave.
