My garage door spring snapped at 6am last Tuesday and sent metal shrapnel across the whole place
I was backing out to head to work and heard this loud BANG like a gunshot. Found pieces of spring embedded in my drywall about 15 feet away. Called a pro because I know those things can kill you, but it cost me $380 to replace both springs. Has anyone here ever attempted a torsion spring swap themselves or am I right to leave that to the experts?

Honestly I used to think garage door springs couldn't be that hard to deal with. I watched a YouTube video and almost convinced myself I could save the $380 but then I saw a photo of a guy who had one snap and slice through his arm. That was it for me, I will never mess with those things.

You know, it's funny how we all have that one thing we just know we shouldn't mess with but sometimes we still think about trying anyway, like changing your own oil or fixing a garage door spring. I figure it's the same reason I pay a plumber for anything beyond a clogged toilet - the pros have seen enough bad DIY jobs to make the $380 worth it every time.
