Patching drywall took me 3 tries before it looked right

I had a small hole from a doorknob in the hallway, maybe 2 inches across. Thought it would be a 30 minute job but I messed up the mud consistency twice and had to sand and redo everything. Third time I finally let each coat dry fully for 12 hours between layers (I was rushing before) and it blended perfectly. Did anyone else struggle with getting the texture to match on older walls?

Did your friend ever get stuck with one of those too? I had a buddy who agreed to "quickly" wire up a new ceiling fan for his sister on a Saturday morning. Eight hours later, he was still up on a ladder trying to figure out why the wiring diagram didn't match anything in the box. He ended up just hiring an electrician and buying everyone pizza. Never trust a job estimate from someone who's not the one doing the work.
