Tried outdoor-rated caulk vs. regular for my deck repair, glad I spent the extra $8
I had to redo a gap near the railing where water was pooling, and the regular stuff would've just cracked by spring. The outdoor stuff flexed way better even when I tested it with a hose right after. Anyone else stick with the cheap stuff and regret it later?

Honestly, is it really THAT serious? I've used regular caulk on my deck for years and it holds up fine. Maybe if you live somewhere with actual winter or rain, okay, but for most people it's just a gimmick to charge more. The outdoor stuff might flex a bit better but I bet the cheap stuff would've lasted just as long if you applied it right. I say save your money and put it toward something else. But hey, if you feel better spending extra, not my problem.

My dad used regular caulk on his deck and it cracked by the second summer. I switched to outdoor stuff on my place and it’s still holding after four years now.

But isn't it possible your dad just didn't prep the surface right? I mean, outdoor caulk is literally made to handle expansion and UV rays, so it's not really a gimmick if it saves you from redoing the whole thing in a year or two... I've seen regular stuff peel off in one season with any kind of weather, so I'd rather spend a bit more upfront than patch it every summer.
