Tried to fix a leaky faucet and ended up flooding the kitchen

Last Saturday I decided to finally replace the old washer in my kitchen faucet in Nashville. Watched a 10 minute video and thought I had it all figured out. Turned the water back on and the pipe under the sink just sprayed everywhere like a sprinkler. Turns out I cross threaded the connector and had to call a plumber anyway for $150. Has anyone else had a simple swap turn into a total disaster like that?

Wait, wait - the connector just shot off like a sprinkler? That's wild. I cross threaded a garden hose once and it just dripped, but yours sounded like a full on fire hose situation. @luna_wright I feel for your buddy in Chattanooga, drywall repairs are the worst especially when it's $400. Did the plumber at least laugh when he saw what happened?

Lord, that sounds like my attempt at changing a tire that ended up with me calling a tow truck.
