Unpopular opinion: I was wrong about using a paint sprayer for kitchen cabinets

I used to tell everyone a sprayer was the only way to get a smooth finish on cabinets. Last year, a painter I respect in Austin told me my work looked 'dusty' and pointed out tiny dry spots I missed. He said my prep was rushed and a good brush with the right paint would beat a rushed spray job any day. I tried it on my next project, taking a full day just to sand and clean, and the brush gave me a much more even coat. Has anyone else switched back to brushes after thinking sprayers were the best?

Prep is the real secret to a good finish, not the tool.

You ever see a guy with a thousand dollar sander ruin a piece of wood? It happens all the time. Sanding through the veneer because you rushed the prep makes the best tool useless. A cheap block and careful sanding beats a fancy machine any day if you skip the steps. The finish just shows your prep work, good or bad.

Exactly. @avery_ross gets it. My rushed spray jobs looked terrible.
