Finally caved on digital drafting after fighting it for 5 years
I was Always against switching from my old drafting board to CAD software. Thought it would kill the feel of the work. Last month my boss handed me a deadline for a commercial building in Columbus and said I had no choice. Spent 3 days learning the basics and now I can't believe I waited so long. Has anyone else here made the switch later in their career and regretted not doing it sooner?

Give it a few months, you'll see what you lost. There's something about the physical act of drawing, the way the pencil moves on paper, that makes you think different. Digital makes it too easy to zoom in and obsess over tiny details before you've even got the big picture right. Plus I've seen way too many CAD drawings that look perfect on screen but have real bad spatial problems you'd catch right away with a pencil sketch. The architects I know who started digital early can't even rough out a floor plan without a laptop. You traded a skill for a tool.

Ugh I totally get that. I fought it for like 7 years at my old firm and then when I finally did it I felt kinda stupid for being so stubborn. Like the undo button alone saves me so much time when I mess up a wall line. But I still keep a sketchbook on my desk for quick rough stuff, helps me not lose that initial thinking process.
