I said I'd never use a laser level, but now I get the hype after dropping $80 on a cheap one

Spent $80 on a no-name laser level off Amazon just to see what the fuss was about, and it cut my layout time in half on a kitchen remodel last week. Has anyone else been converted on a tool they swore was overhyped?

dropping $80 on a cheap one" - wait, $80 is cheap for a laser level? I paid like $30 for mine at Harbor Freight and it works fine for basic stuff. Guess it depends what you're doing with it though. For a kitchen remodel with cabinets and such, I could see needing something with better accuracy. Did you get one of those cross line ones or just a single line?

So did you buy one of those cross line ones or a self leveling model? I've been looking at them for a while but I'm worried about dropping cash on something that just ends up sitting in the garage after one use. Your kitchen remodel sounds like a good test... how bad was the layout before you used the laser? Like were you just using a tape measure and a level, or did you have some other method you thought was fine?

Oh man, I got the self leveling one and now I'm honestly scared to go back to a regular level. It's like when you finally get Bluetooth in your car and suddenly auxiliary cords feel barbaric. Before the laser I was using a tape measure and a bubble level like some kind of caveman just PRAYING the cabinets wouldn't end up crooked.
