My AutoCAD file crashed mid-revision and I lost 3 hours of work

I was working on a commercial HVAC layout last Tuesday at my desk in Portland. The file had this weird glitch where it would freeze every time I tried to hatch a duct section. I kept saving as I went, but my backup folder was set to hourly intervals. Ended up losing all the edits I made between 2pm and 5pm. Now I set AutoCAD to autosave every 10 minutes and keep a manual backup on a flash drive. Has anyone else had luck with recovery tools for corrupted DWG files?

The autosave timer thing is basically life. It's like how you never check your gas gauge until you're already sputtering on the highway. Recovery tools are a crapshoot in my experience, sometimes they salvage the whole thing, sometimes they just make a bigger mess.

Started hitting save every time I step away from my laptop. Covers my ass when autosave glitches or power goes out. No fancy recovery tools needed, just muscle memory now.

Idk @tara642, I kind of like the gamble with recovery tools. Sometimes you get lucky and they save more than a manual save would.
