Why I stopped following the 'always eject USB' rule after 8 years
Last Tuesday I yanked a flash drive out of my work PC without hitting eject and nothing happened. Three years ago I did the same thing on a jobsite in Denver and corrupted the whole thing. Lost a set of redlined drawings and had to redo three hours of work. People swear by ejecting every time, but after 8 years of this I think it's a toss up on older hardware. Anyone else had that experience where the rule only mattered on specific machines?

Huh, that reminds me of a buddy of mine who used to work AV for concerts. He had this one old laptop that would corrupt a USB every time if you didn't eject. But he found out later it was just a loose internal cable, not the software. He fixed it with a zip tie, and after that he could yank drives out like it was nothing. Anyway, @simonp76 hit it - some machines are just drama queens for no reason.
