Got stuck in a dream elevator that only went sideways last night

I was trying to get to the 7th floor of a department store in Chicago, but this elevator just slid left and right between aisles of furniture. The weird part was everyone acted normal like this was just how you shop. Has anyone else's brain made up transportation rules that make zero sense?

I used to say dreams were random but that sideways elevator actually changed my mind.
