Heard my coworker say 'dreams are just your brain filing things wrong' and it clicked

She said it while we were sorting old files at the office in Phoenix last Tuesday. Made me think about how my dreams always have that weird logic, like putting socks in the fridge makes total sense at 3am. Has anyone else had a random comment suddenly explain their dream rules to them?

Yeah I used to think dreams were just random nonsense but hearing it described as 'filing things wrong' actually makes a ton of sense. It kind of explains why you wake up and realize none of it holds up to real world logic, like your brain mixed up all the folders. That comment honestly shifted how I look at my own dreams now.

Man that "mixing up the folders" thing @ray356 hit me hard too. It's like your brain is trying to sort through the day's junk but just throws it all together and calls it a night. Now when I wake up from a weird dream, I just shrug and figure my mental filing system had a glitch.

Read somewhere that dreams might actually help us practice for real-life threats... like your brain running through worst case scenarios while you're asleep. Kinda makes you think about all those falling or being chased dreams differently huh.
