I was dreaming about my old apartment for months before I noticed the key detail

In the dream, I'd always be trying to get inside, but the lock was a weird puzzle. It clicked when I realized I was trying to use my current car key, not an apartment key. Has anyone else had a dream object just be the wrong thing entirely?

Trying to unlock a door with a banana is about right. My brain once gave me a spaghetti strainer instead of a steering wheel.
