My buddy's dream about a broken elevator made me stop avoiding hard conversations
Last week my friend Jake told me about a dream where he kept trying to take an elevator that only went down. He said the floors kept getting darker and smaller, but he couldn't figure out why he kept getting on. It hit me that I do the same thing with arguments I'd rather just avoid. Now when I catch myself dodging a tough talk, I think about that dream elevator and just take the stairs instead. Has anyone else had a dream symbol that actually changed how you act when you're awake?

mark's teeth dream is a classic one, I know at least three other people who have had that. But I want to gently push back on kimr74, because you said the dream made you realize you were trapped. Dreams don't really make us realize anything by themselves. They just show us what our brain is already trying to process. It's more like the dream held up a mirror to a fight you were already avoiding. So the real credit goes to you for picking up the phone the next morning and making that awful call. That took guts, and that's all you.

Man, that hit me hard. I had a dream once where I was locked in a room with no doors, just a window I couldn't open. It made me realize I was literally trapped by a fight with my dad I kept putting off. I called him the next morning and it was awful for ten minutes, but after that we actually talked for the first time in years. Those dreams are our brains being smarter than we give them credit for.

Had one where my teeth all fell out. Woke up and checked in the mirror like a crazy person. Turns out I was just stressed about quitting smoking cold turkey. The cigs were gone but my brain needed something to panic about.
