Pro tip: In my dreams, I used to run from monsters, but now I just tell them my rent is due.
It works every time, but my friend says that's a cop-out and you should face the fear directly, so which method is actually better dream logic?

Honestly, I'm totally on your side with this one. The rent thing is brilliant because it's so deeply annoying that even a dream monster can't handle it (and honestly, mine would probably just feel bad for me at that point). Your friend's approach sounds noble but fighting dream monsters is exhausting, so I say if your brain lets you win with a joke, take it.

Why does it have to be a cop out? Dreams are weird and your own brain is making the rules. If telling the monster about rent makes it leave you alone, that's facing it on your own terms. Direct confrontation sounds cool but sometimes the smart move is just to end the nightmare fast. Your method works, so that's valid dream logic right there.

Yeah @marywilson, ending a nightmare fast is the whole point... I just ask mine if it paid the water bill and it gets all confused and leaves.

Honestly, what even counts as a real win in a dream? I had one where a bear was chasing me and I just handed it a parking ticket. It spent the whole dream trying to argue the fine with a tree. The fear was gone because it was too busy being annoyed, which is basically the same result as fighting it. Your friend's way might work for them, but if your brain accepts the rent thing as a solution, then you did face it. The monster left, right? That's a win in my book.
