That dream rule about running away from the monster finally clicked for me

I used to think the whole 'don't look back or you'll get caught' thing in dreams was just nonsense, but last night I had a nightmare where a shadow creature was chasing me down a hallway in my old high school. I remembered that rule and kept my eyes forward the whole time, and I actually made it to a door that led to a sunny beach. Has anyone else found a dream rule that weirdly works for them? @

Wait, dream rule? Pretty sure that's more of a lucid dreaming technique not an actual thing.
