Am I the only one who still thinks about that guy at the open mic in Austin who said my songs were 'too sad for a Tuesday'?
His offhand comment from a sticky bar stool in 2019 completely killed my nerve to ever try performing my own music again, so what's a dream you let one random person's opinion destroy?

lewis.terry is spot on, that guy's opinion was worthless. A girl in my college poetry class said my stuff was "try-hard" and I didn't write for years after. People throw out dumb comments without knowing how they stick. Letting one rando kill your dream is way too common.

How do these people get so much power over us? I had a boss at a coffee shop tell me my drawings were "depressing for the wall" and I just stopped showing anyone my art. It's crazy how a single sentence from someone who doesn't matter can shut you down for good.

That Austin guy probably couldn't play a G chord like @lewis.finley said, but that doesn't mean his comment wasn't true for that moment. A Tuesday crowd isn't looking for heavy stuff, and sometimes a random stranger's reaction is just a reality check on reading the room. Letting one opinion shut you down is on you for not having thicker skin.
