Had to pick between going to art school or taking a steady job at my uncle's shop. I took the job.

Remember my cousin turned down a welding apprenticeship to study poetry. He's a manager at a hardware store now, still writes on weekends but says the steady paycheck lets him actually enjoy it.

Man, that's a tough call... but a steady job gives you room to breathe. Sometimes the safe choice lets you do the other stuff without the pressure.

Funny how we never talk about the mental tax of a safe job though. That steady paycheck can come with its own kind of pressure, the slow dread of being stuck. It's not always free breathing room, sometimes it's just a different kind of heavy air.

That steady job can buy you art supplies and time to practice on the side. The security can actually help you build the skill without the panic.
