My dad told me to skip the art degree and go for IT. I listened.
He said I'd never make a living painting, that it was a hobby. So I got a business IT degree from the local college instead. Now I just fix printers all day and haven't touched a brush in years. Anyone else give up a creative dream because someone said it was a bad idea?

Fix printers all day" is a job, not a whole life, so you can still paint after work.

Yeah "not a whole life" is a good way to put it. Your job pays for your life, it doesn't have to be your whole personality. Making time for stuff like painting is how you keep from getting burned out.
