My buddy Mike had a similar thing happen. He used to play all the time, then just put his bass in the closet for years. When his wife asked, he realized it wasn't one big reason. It was just life getting busy, then feeling rusty, then being too embarrassed to sound bad.

My friend's guitar sat in its case so long the strings went dead. He said picking it back up felt like starting over from scratch, which just made him put it off more. That cycle is real and tough to break.

Simonp76's buddy Mike nailed it. It's never one big reason, just a slow drift away until you forget why you even liked it. My guitar is basically a really expensive coat rack now. I tell myself I'll pick it up when I'm better, which is a hilarious joke because I won't get better without picking it up. The logic is perfectly stupid.
