Rant: Everyone says follow your passion but my art dream was a disaster

Back in 2018 I quit my job to paint full time here in Portland, and after 3 years I only sold 7 pieces total. Last month I had to ask my landlord for an extension on rent because I was broke. Why do people act like chasing a dream is always worth it when sometimes it just ruins your life?

Man "ruins your life"? That's a bit dramatic. You gave it a shot for 3 years, it didn't work out, so now you go back to a regular paycheck and paint on weekends.

Alright, but let me ask you something. After 3 years of going all in on that life, how do you just flip a switch and pretend the dream is dead? Does that not mess with your head a little bit, knowing you gave up something you actually wanted?

My buddy tried that artist thing for two years and ended up selling hot dogs at a dead fair.
