Three weeks to fix a toilet and I still don't know what I'm doing

I decided to replace the flapper in my toilet because it was running nonstop. Thought it would be a 20 minute job but I ended up buying three different flappers from Home Depot over two weeks because none of them fit right. Turns out my toilet is some weird Kohler model from 2005 with a specific part number. Has anyone else spent way too long on a simple home repair that should have taken an hour tops?

Totally feel your pain, man. I once spent a whole weekend chasing a ghost leak in my bathroom sink, only to find out I just needed to tighten a nut by hand.

Oh man, that's way too familiar! I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out why my washing machine was leaving a puddle, turned out the drain hose had just popped loose from the standpipe. At least we both got a good lesson in checking the simple stuff first, right? What's the one thing you always forget to check before diving into a project?

Oh for sure! For me it's always checking if the thing is actually plugged in.
