Vent: I had to pick between a music scholarship and a steady job offer.
Right after high school, I got a partial scholarship to study jazz guitar at a college in Austin. The same week, my uncle offered me a full-time job at his auto shop in my hometown. I took the job because it meant no debt and immediate money. That was 15 years ago, and I still work on cars. I never even picked up my guitar again after that summer. Has anyone else given up a creative path for something more practical? How did you handle it?

Gotta push back on the idea that creative work isn't seen as real work. The real issue is that those jobs are often super unstable and don't pay the bills at all. Taking the safe job isn't about believing your art is just a hobby, it's about knowing you need rent money. The system makes it nearly impossible to choose the risky creative path unless you have a big safety net. It's less about what we're taught and more about the raw math of surviving.

Ever try doing creative work on the side while keeping a steady job for bills? It's tough but can keep the lights on and the art alive.

That line about never picking up the guitar again hit me. I see this all the time, people putting their art or music in a closet because real life bills show up. It's like we're taught that creative stuff is just a hobby, not real work. Makes me wonder how many great songs or paintings we never got to see because someone had to take the safe job.
