Chatted with a old timer at the fuel dock yesterday

He said he never runs his pump past 70% load and I've been redlining mine for years. Anyone else grow up thinking full throttle was the only way to go?

Figured out this one the hard way myself (and by hard way I mean rebuilding a lower unit). Running an engine at full throttle all the time is like driving your car at top speed everywhere you go. Sure it can handle it for a while but the heat and stress just builds up over time. They design these things with a sweet spot where everything runs cooler and lasts longer. I bet that old timer has had the same motor for 30 years while the redliners are on their third or fourth one.

Yep, used to think WOT was the only setting before learning the hard way.

Oh nah @linda114 it's actually "wide open throttle," not "WOT" stands for something else.
