Crossed 100,000 cubic yards moved this morning before dawn

I checked the totalizer on the barge computer after finishing a tricky spot near the old bridge pilings and it rolled over 100k exactly. Has anyone else hit a round number milestone that actually made you stop and think about all the mud you've shifted?

Just a small thing - 100,000 cubic yards is a lot but you might be mixing up your units a little. Dredge totals are usually in cubic yards for the loose material you scoop out, but the real "in place" volume is way lower after compaction and water weight. We had a similar rollover on our project last summer - hit 50,000 cubic yards on the computer but the survey team said it was only about 38,000 of actual solid stuff in the channel. Still a cool milestone though, especially working those tricky spots near old pilings.

You gotta track both numbers from day one or it'll bite you. We had a 60,000 yard job turn into 42,000 after the survey boat ran lines. The ops manual says 1.3 to 1.5 swell factor depending on material, but that's just a guess until you get wet feet on it. Always make the survey team take a few core samples around those old pilings too because that debris messes with the sonar readings.
