Saw a crew on the Mississippi near St. Louis running their cutterhead at half speed for the whole day shift. Never seen that before.

Buddy of mine was on a dredge up near Alton a few years back. They had to run slow like that for a solid week. Turns out the survey was off and they were right on top of a big old gas line. Every scoop was just clay and nerves. Captain said it was the quietest week of his life, just listening for that scrape.

Man, that scrape sound is the worst. Had a similar thing happen near Baton Rouge where we were just feathering the controls for days.
