Spent 9 hours on a single jammed cutterhead last Tuesday

I was working a job down near the Port of Savannah and this old cutterhead just locked up solid on some buried cable or something. Took me and my helper from 6am till 3pm with torches and pry bars to finally get it free. Anyone else ever have a routine day turn into a nightmare like that?

Man that SOUNDS like a brutal day. 9 hours on one cutterhead is rough, I've been there with a stuck auger once and it's just soul draining. You must have been cursing that buried cable all morning. Solidarity man, sometimes those "routine" jobs turn into a whole different beast and you just gotta grind through it.

Soul draining" is the perfect way to put it. My buddy had a similar nightmare with a stuck drill bit once, ended up having to dig it out by hand in a trench that kept filling with water. He said by hour six he was just laughing at how bad it was, like the only thing left to do was laugh or cry.

You got me on that "soul draining" stuff. I see it different. That 9 hours wasn't pain. It was money. Every minute with a torch is a minute the clock is ticking. Your buddy laughing at hour six? That's just a coping thing. But I'd rather be working a hard day than sitting around waiting for the next job to come in. Grinding through the rough stuff is what separates the guys who make a living from the guys who complain about it.
