Just read that the average drywall pro uses about 1,500 screws for a standard 12x12 room

Saw that stat in an old trade magazine at the supply house. Does that sound right to you guys, or do you find you use more or less?

Actually saw a video breakdown on this last week. The guy counted out screws for a 4x8 sheet and then did the math. For a room that size, with sheets on the ceiling and all walls, 1500 is in the ballpark. It really depends on your spacing though, some guys go tighter on the edges. That old magazine stat is probably a decent average.

That number seems way too low for a proper job.

Wait, are we talking per hour or per year? I mean if that's the yearly salary, that's insane. That's barely over minimum wage in a lot of places. No way you can live on that.

Oh yeah, that number is pretty standard for a 12x12 room if you're doing 12 inch spacing on the edges and 16 in the field! @kelly638 I'd actually say it's more common to hit around 1,600 to 1,700 once you account for waste like broken screws or ones that just don't catch right. If you're real careful with your gun and don't skip any spots, 1,500 is doable but it leaves almost no room for error. I usually buy a couple extra boxes just to be safe, then pocket the leftovers for the next job.
