Mixed mud too thin on a 2000 sq ft basement job in Phoenix and it cost me 3 extra days.

Had a big basement job in Phoenix last month. Mixed my mud way too thin trying to save time. Took three extra days to get it all right with extra coats and sanding. Anybody else made this mistake and found a foolproof way to get the consistency perfect every time?

save time" is exactly why thins happen lol. Phoenix dry air will mess you up too, gotta go a little thicker than you think and check it every 10 mins. Just mix it like thick mayo and you're golden.

Heard adding a little vinegar helps slow the cure in dry heat.

Does the dryness in Phoenix mess with how fast the mud sets up too? I had a buddy who used to add just a splash of dish soap to his mix to slow it down and keep it workable longer. Never tried it myself since I always worry it'll mess with the paint sticking later.
