That guy from shipping just casually dropped a truth bomb on me

So I was complaining to our shipping guy Dave about how our ticket system always breaks on Mondays. I've been fighting this stupid software for like 2 years now. Dave just shrugged and said "you know they don't pay you to fix the tickets right, they pay you to show up and make the tickets look fixed." And I swear something just clicked in my brain. Like I've been stressing over actually solving the root problem when nobody even notices if I just reset the server and call it a day. It hit different because Dave's been here 20 years and he just goes with the flow while I'm over here burning out. Has anyone else realized they were making their boring job way harder than it needed to be?

Dave's been there 20 years and figured out the system runs on appearances, not results. Honestly I see that everywhere now, like my buddy's wife kept burning out at her receptionist job until she realized nobody cared if the files were sorted right, just that they looked neat. Ngl once you notice that pattern it's hard to unsee.

But isn't the real trick figuring out when appearances actually start producing results anyway? Sometimes that neat file cabinet makes it easier for the next person, but yeah, mostly it's just a show.

Man, it's wild how that works. @the_linda, your buddy's wife figured out the real secret - it's all theater. I've seen it in retail too, like when managers insist on facing all the cans forward but don't care if half the stock is expired. Once you catch on, it's like you can see the whole world is running on smoke and mirrors. You start noticing it in everything from office meetings to church potlucks. It's exhausting but also kind of freeing once you accept it.
