Vent: My boss told me I was "reorganizing" the stockroom wrong...
I spent two hours arranging canned goods by color because I thought it looked nice... then the shift manager came back and said nobody could find the beans. She told me to just sort by date, oldest in front... now I actually find stuff faster, go figure.

Reorganizing" the stockroom? That's a stretch.

Wait, did she actually explain WHY date order works better for a stockroom, or did she just assume that's the only way? That's what gets me - people in charge often demand one system without ever saying why it makes sense. In my experience, there's usually a good reason for stuff like that, but it helps when they tell you the logic behind it. Like, if you know the goal is speed and accuracy, you can figure out the method yourself. But if they just say "do it this way" without the reason, you're stuck blindly following rules instead of learning how the place actually runs. Did she give you any reasoning at all, or was it just "do it my way"?

Back when I worked retail, the manager actually took five minutes to show us why date order saved time during inventory checks. That simple explanation made all the difference, because then I could adjust the system when things got off schedule without breaking anything. @daniel140 she never gave a reason at all, just told me to copy her method and that was that.
