Just found out arc flash boundaries are way bigger than I thought

I was looking up NFPA 70E stuff last night and saw the arc flash boundary for a 480v panel can be like 20 feet with high fault current... has anyone else actually measured theirs on a job site?

Yeah that one caught me off guard too. I always figured a few feet was plenty, but then I ran the numbers for a 480V panel with a 40kA fault current and it came out to like 18 feet. Definitely changed my thinking on how close I stand to stuff now.

Electricity always makes you realize how little things add up way faster than you'd expect.

lol yeah but nobody talks about how arc flash gear turns into a sauna in like 30 seconds flat.
