Question about the growing hobby of building custom light fixtures
I just finished a pendant light for my kitchen and it got me thinking. Are more electricians getting into design work like this?

How do you even start learning the design side? I mean I just looked at a lot of pictures online and tried to copy shapes I liked with safe parts, idk. It worked for my place but I'm not selling them or anything.

Totally! It makes perfect sense when you look at how many people are into home renovation shows now. Everyone wants something unique instead of basic store-bought fixtures, so the electricians are just following the demand. They already know the safety stuff and how to install things, so adding some design skills is a smart move. I'd trust an electrician who understands design way more than some random artist who doesn't know wiring rules.

Yeah but here's what I wonder, where do you draw the line? An electrician knowing design is great, but are they getting real training on it or just winging it? I've seen guys in my trade try to expand into stuff they aren't fully prepped for, and it gets messy. Does their insurance even cover design advice if something goes wrong later? How does that actually work?
