USB outlet requests are clogging up my job list

I keep getting calls for USB outlet installs (you know, in every room of the house). It's crazy how many people think they need them, but most just use phone chargers with adapters. Last month, I did a job where the homeowner wanted eight USB outlets, but they had perfect working outlets already. This adds extra time and cost for no good reason, in my opinion. We should focus on real electrical needs, not these trendy add-ons. I've started telling clients to stick with standard outlets unless they have a specific need.

Built-in USB is convenient, but I'm still using adapter blocks like a old-timer.

Actually, built-in USB ports cut down on cord clutter at the outlet, which clients really like. It's one less thing to plug in and lose around the house. Simple upgrades like that keep calls coming back without much extra work.

Honestly I was in the same spot a few years back. Thought it was just a fad. Then I started putting them in the kitchens and bedrooms during remodels because people kept asking. Now it's just a normal part of my quote. Takes maybe two extra minutes per outlet once you've done a few. The calls for small jobs like that do add up.

You said it adds extra time and cost for no good reason. But isn't the reason that the customer is asking for it and willing to pay? If people want these outlets and you're getting steady calls for them, that sounds like a real need they have. Maybe it's not a need you get, but it's what they want. Calling it trendy makes it sound useless, but a built in USB port is just more convenient than an adapter block. It seems like easy work that pays the bills. I don't see the problem.
