Just realized I've been using my $50 hot air station wrong for two years because the manual was in German.
I was complaining to another tech about how my rework always looked messy, and he asked if I ever changed the airflow setting from 'blast furnace' to 'gentle breeze', which was apparently on page 3 of the diagrams I never bothered to translate.

This is exactly how half the stuff in life works honestly. You figure out some hack or shortcut and just assume that's how it's done until someone casually shows you a way that's ten times easier and way less frustrating. It's kind of humbling but also makes you wonder what other simple adjustments are hiding in plain sight waiting to be discovered.

Makes me wonder what else I've been doing wrong without knowing.

Ever think you're doing something the right way until you see it done better? I used to be sure about a lot of stuff that I've since changed my mind on. It's a weird feeling but you just gotta roll with it.

Two years of bad joints is a long time. Did you ever try to find an English manual online or was it just easier to keep going with the wrong setting? I get that translating takes effort but it seems like a basic step.
