A fire inspector told me he's seeing a lot of 2015-era Otis Gen2 door operators with worn cam followers

He said the wear pattern is subtle and they're failing right after the 10-year mark, which is hitting a bunch of buildings at once. It made me check my own service logs for that model year, and sure enough, I found three with early signs. Are you guys seeing this spike too, or is it just a local thing in my area?

Buddy of mine manages a midrise in Denver, had four Otis cars lock up doors mid-cycle last month. Elevator mechanic traced it all back to those same cam followers and said it was a known factory tolerance issue from back then. Now they're scrambling to retro all of them before the next inspection hits.

Wait, they're failing right at the ten year mark? That's way too perfect, like they were built to a timer. Are the cams themselves wearing down too, or is it just the followers giving out first?

Honestly, is there anything from 2015 that isn't starting to fall apart right now?

Actually murphy.mason, my 2015 car is still running fine with just basic upkeep. Plenty of tech from that year, like game consoles, still gets regular use without issues. It feels like we just notice the stuff that breaks and ignore what's still working.
