Found out the Empire State Building has 73 elevators and I can't stop thinking about it

I was reading this old building maintenance manual from a library in Philly and it just casually dropped that number. I mean, I knew it was a lot, but 73? That's a whole fleet. Has anyone here ever worked on one of those original units, or know what kind of systems they run now?

A whole fleet is right. I get stressed just picking a floor in a normal elevator.

Right, the floor picking stress is real, @iris927. I stand there staring at the buttons like it's a final exam. Do I hit 4? Is someone on 4? What if they get off and I'm just standing there? Then I panic and hit 7 for no reason. The doors close and I'm just committed to a journey I didn't want.
