From a bad call on door alignment, my take on common methods

Last week, I followed the standard procedure to align elevator doors, but they jammed within hours. Lots of guys swear by that method, but it clearly failed here. The misalignment caused a call back and extra labor. I'm now testing a slower, more precise approach for door setups.

My old tape measure has more bends than a country road after my last door job. Sounds like @robins83 saw the laser version of that story.

Didn't there used to be an old shop tip about checking door drag with a dollar bill? I read that in a forum years back, the idea was if the bill pulls out smooth but with slight resistance your drag is set right. Makes you wonder how many of these standard procedures are just the fastest way, not the best way. Your story about the call back is exactly why that slower method might save more time in the long run.

Watched a tech swear by laser alignment until a door crushed his tape measure.

Laser alignment crushing a tape measure is the most real story ever.
