Pro tip: don't cheap out on a laser level for shaft alignment
Bought a $80 one from a discount tool truck and it drifted a quarter inch over 30 floors. Cost me a full day to re-check everything. What brand do you guys actually trust for high-rise work?

Used to think any laser level would do the job. Learned the hard way that's not true on a high rise last year. Now I only trust the expensive ones from the actual supply house.

The real question is whether your discount tool guy has ever actually been on a job site. Those trucks are a gamble.

Yeah the "gamble" part is dead on, but some of those guys actually do know their stuff. I've met a few who used to work trades before they got into selling. The real trick is knowing which ones are just flipping junk from a warehouse. Like with @seth_singh20's buddy, that drill was probably a fake or a factory reject. You gotta check the brand and the serial numbers, otherwise you're just buying fancy looking trash.

Oh man, my buddy bought a cordless drill off one last year. Thing smoked and died halfway through hanging his first shelf. Total junk.
