Leveling is one of those things that looks simple until you actually have to do it right. Getting that bubble exactly in the center takes practice and a steady hand. Have you tried setting up on a shorter tripod first to get a feel for it?

My uncle taught me the same idea when I was learning to throw darts as a kid - start close to the board and back up, lol. It's funny how so many things in life work that way, where you have to build up the basics before you can handle the harder stuff. Getting the tripod steady first is like practicing scales before you try to play a whole song.

Totally agree with that! @murphy.mason, that's exactly what I did when I was learning to level a concrete form. I started with a really short two-foot level on a tiny spot, just to get my hand steady and my eye used to watching that bubble. Once I could lock it in without thinking, I moved up to a longer level and a bigger area. It's like you gotta crawl before you walk, especially with anything that needs a steady touch.
