Serious question, why are we still using the old two-man method for setting governor ropes?

I had a job in a tight 1970s shaft in Cincinnati last Tuesday where the standard way just wasn't working. After fighting it for an hour, I tried a trick my first boss showed me: use a single come-along hooked to the crosshead beam, but run the rope through a snatch block on the governor sheave first. It let me set the tension solo in about 15 minutes with perfect alignment. I know it goes against the book, but it saved the whole afternoon. Has anyone else found a safe solo method for these old, cramped setups?

Bet the hospital bedsheet had a better safety record than that.

Cincinnati shafts always need creative solutions.

That trick reminds me of jury-rigging a broken hospital bed rail with a bedsheet once.

Oh wow, I read a whole article about how common that kind of makeshift fix is in hospitals.
