Swapped from rope hitches to wire rope clips on all my elevator cables
Used to rely on fiber core rope hitches for every job, but after a door lock jammed on a 2012 Schindler in downtown Austin last spring, I switched to wire rope clips for better holding power. Anyone else find clips easier to inspect during annual load tests?

Check the manufacturer's spec sheet first though. Some clips have a tighter tolerance than others.

Used to be all about those rope hitches myself, never thought I'd switch. But that door lock story is exactly the kind of nightmare that makes you rethink everything, clips are way easier to check during a load test for sure.

Wait wait wait, "door lock jammed on a 2012 Schindler"? Hold up. Those older Schindlers have that weird cam-style lock mechanism that's a nightmare to get to even with the car in inspection mode. If that thing jammed on you in downtown Austin, I'm surprised you didn't torch the whole controller room. I've been on a 2011 model where the lock linkage froze up so bad we had to cut the door open with a sawzall just to get the car moving again. Wire rope clips sound like a smart move but man, I'd be double checking those are rated for the cable diameter you're running. A clip that's too small can slip just as bad as a bad hitch.
